Purpose of Position

Professional position responsible for working with Assistant Library Director for Instruction and Information Literacy Services to develop and implement research and information literacy skills campus-wide.  Will assist colleagues in developing information literacy instructional materials and work with faculty in integrating information literacy into curriculum. 

Essential Functions


Provides general and specialized information literacy instructional services in the Library, across campus and online.


Develops virtual and face to face workshops on information literacy to meet the needs of all students, including on-campus, off-campus, and distance learners.

Keeps up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of information literacy, instructional technologies, emerging practices, and information literacy standards.

Collaborates with faculty and colleagues to create relevant information literacy class assignments and tutorials as well as assessments. 


Provides general and specialized research assistance at the Reference Desk.

Participates in collection development for assigned subject areas including weeding materials, serials review, and consulting with faculty on acquisitions.

Prepares instructional material including, Libguides, video and print tutorials and informational publications.

Contributes to the Library, the University, and the profession through involvement in committees, organizations, and service activities.

On occasion directs work of para-professional staff and student assistants.

Periodic evening and weekend work as required.

Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school.

Excellent communication skills and strong service orientation

Knowledge of Instructional strategies

Familiarity with active learning techniques

Familiarity with Instruction assessment practices

Preferred Qualifications

Professional public service work in an academic or research library

Experience in information literacy instruction and assessment

Experience creating instruction materials in electronic format

Knowledge of ACRL Information Literacy standards

Familiarity with reference tools and indexes in electronic format, including Internet accessible resources

Experience in use of BlackboardLibGuides, Adobe Captivate, and web design

Working knowledge of at least one non-English language, Spanish preferred.

Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions.

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
