We are looking for an exceptional individual, with deep experience of, and enthusiasm for overseeing academic services in major academic research libraries. The successful candidate will make a key contribution to the strategic direction of the Bodleian Libraries as a whole, but especially for its academic services, its public engagement activities, and developing its strategic direction to ensure that the Bodleian remains one of the great research libraries of the world.

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the strategic oversight of all library activities, deputising for Bodley’s Librarian, developing and sustaining high-quality services for researchers and ensuring that the Bodleian’s collections continue to be developed and enhanced for the benefit of scholarship in all disciplines.

The post holder will be a key member of the Libraries senior management teams providing leadership, policy formulation and management of all staff employed in the Academic Library Services division (over 300 staff) with an annual budget of circa £11million.

To meet the challenges of this role you will have a good degree and a relevant post graduate qualification (or equivalent), the ability to strategically manage large and complex operations, a strong record of innovative and creative leadership within a large research centre or academic library. Interest, enthusiasm and experience in strategic development in academic libraries, excellent analytical and decision making skills and proven ability to manage and supervise in collaboration with internal stakeholders are also essential.

With the ability to represent the Bodleian Libraries locally, nationally, and internationally through committees, papers and presentations, the post holder will also have a demonstrable record of policy development, successful collaborations and influencing others along with a strong user-focussed approach to services.
