SUMMARY: Northwestern University Library seeks an engaged, creative and service-oriented professional to interact with faculty and students to coordinate user services and outreach in the fields of art, art history, architecture, photography, and design. The Art Librarian is responsible for providing reference and research consultation, developing instructional programs and materials, and planning and fostering outreach to the departments of Art Theory and Practice and Art History. In consultation with and under the general direction of the Art Collection Head, the Art Librarian participates in collection development, preservation, and collection maintenance activities; selects books, journals, and electronic resources in assigned collection development areas; and develops exhibits and online resources promoting Art Collection resources. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and information science or the equivalent combination of education and relevant library experience. Academic background in art and knowledge of art history, its literature, information sources, and research methods. Excellent oral and written communications. Aptitude for teaching and training. The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively across departments and divisions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Collection development experience. Master's degree in art history or a related humanities field. Reading knowledge of one or more European or Asian languages. Competence in web design and with productivity, collaboration, and publishing tools. Familiarity with preservation and archival practices. Successful supervisory, training, and/or management experience. Record of professional service and/or research.
