The University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) system is the largest academic library in Canada and is ranked third among peer institutions in North America, behind just Harvard and Yale. The system consists of 44 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of 215 graduate programs, over 60 professional programs, and more than 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 12 million print volumes in 
341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 29,554 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year.  The Libraries data centre houses more than 200 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.

The Opportunity
The University of Toronto Libraries seeks a creative and user-oriented professional to fill the role of Assessment Librarian. The Assessment Librarian will take a leadership role in developing and coordinating implementation of a comprehensive and strategic program of assessment within the Libraries. The position will serve to promote a culture of assessment within the library, allowing the library to document its value and impact to the University and make evidence-based decisions, ensuring that we are offering the most effective programs, services and spaces to our many users. He/she will conduct assessments and provide data for all matters related to collections. The librarian will also assume responsibility for the full spectrum of the libraries’ statistics reporting and performance measurement, including LibQual. In compiling and disseminating the libraries' performance indicators, the individual will communicate, on behalf of the library, with other units in the library, the University, 
and external bodies. The Assessment Librarian will collaborate with library, institutional and campus colleagues and will also represent the University of Toronto Libraries in campus, provincial and national assessment programs and initiatives.
 
Required Qualifications:
• Applicants must be graduates of an ALA-accredited library school with an MLIS/MISt degree (or an acceptable equivalent)
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative assessment methodologies and their application in academic libraries
• Expertise in relevant software applications, such as Microsoft Excel, SPSS/SA, NVivo, ATLAS-ti
• Sound knowledge of library-specific assessment tools such as LibQual, MINES and electronic usage standards such as COUNTER and Sushi
• Strong service orientation and commitment to user service and support 
• Proven analytical and problem solving skills
• Proven project management skills
• Effective written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences
 
Preferred Qualifications:
• At least one year’s experience as an academic librarian
• Demonstrated project management skills 
• Experience with research and survey design, conducting usability testing and facilitating focus groups
 
Salary and Terms of Appointment:
This is a Permanent Status Stream position to be filled at a level dependent upon qualifications. Salary and appointment level are based upon experience and qualifications.
 
Librarian I -  $58,100 (Minimum annual salary for full-time Librarian I) 
Librarian II - $60,700 (Minimum annual salary for full-time Librarian II) 
 
NOTE:   Librarians at the University of Toronto are members of the University of Toronto Faculty Association.
