THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES ANNOUNCES A SEARCH FOR  PUBLIC SERVICES AND OUTREACH ARCHIVIST

The George Washington University Libraries invites applications for an innovative, energetic, collaborative professional to lead the educational and programmatic outreach functions of its Special Collections and Archives Department.  Special collections and archives are a strategic priority of the University Libraries. 

The Public Services and Outreach Archivist coordinates public services operations and, in consultation with appropriate colleagues, develops and implements policies and procedures for reference, research, reprographic, access, and reading room services in accordance with identified and emerging best practices.

Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Special Collections and Archives, the Public Services and Outreach Archivist coordinates the department's web and social media presence and seeks out innovative ways in which to incorporate technology into teaching and learning.  The Archivist works closely with Research and User Services librarians and with the Libraries' Scholarly Technology Group to engage and support the work of faculty, staff and students.  The Archivist supervises a fulltime reading room manager who assists in teaching and outreach initiatives.  

The Special Collections and Archives Department has collecting strengths in history of Washington DC; history of the University and the surrounding Foggy Bottom neighborhood; DC and regional African-American history, American labor history; literary studies; Judaica and Hebraica. Collections include organizational records, personal papers, rare books, and audiovisual material. 

Applicants must have a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree with relevant experience and continuing education.
