The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries seeks a Head of Acquisition Services who will move CU-Boulder forward to meet the challenges of evolving systems and technologies and new ways of envisioning traditional acquisitions functions.  This dynamic, experienced, and service-oriented librarian will partner in the development of sustainable acquisitions strategies that keep pace with new forms of scholarly communication and support institutional missions.  The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to collaboration, customer service, and innovation.  This position provides leadership for acquisitions and manages ordering and payment systems for library materials.  The Head of Acquisition Services is responsible for ensuring fiscal accountability for library materials acquisitions and expenditures.  This position leads a team of 7.5 FTE and reports to the Director of the Scholarly Resource Development Department. 
This is a tenure track position that includes significant responsibilities for research or creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder.
 
Requirements:

● ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science or equivalent
● At least three years of increasingly responsible and relevant professional responsibilities in one or more areas related to collections, acquisitions, or budget management in a research library or equivalent complex library environment
● Successful leadership experience and ability to motivate others in a fast-paced environment
● Experience with complex materials budgets
● Working knowledge of evolving business models and trends for library acquisitions
● Talent for developing relationships and negotiating with vendors and publishers
● Demonstrated ability to manage fund accounting, expenditure analyses, and relevant acquisitions functions in university and library accounting systems
● Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and assess workflows
● Demonstrated successful project management skills
● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively at the local, consortial, and national level
● Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills coupled with evidence of ability to build consensus
● Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, nationalities, genders, and ages
● Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional achievement
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy:
● Experience working with an integrated library system acquisitions module
● Demonstrated experience with Excel, Access, or other data analysis tools
● Experience negotiating with vendors, content providers, and publishers that includes pricing, approval plans, and licensing    
● Working knowledge of cataloging practice and standards, including MARC records management
● Knowledge of gift management
● Basic understanding of licensing and copyright issues
● Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles or familiarity with fund accounting and library collections budgets
● Experience acquiring e-content, streaming media, or other material types that involve complex technological and licensing solutions
● Coursework or experience in business, accounting, or finance
● Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to data-informed decision making process

Appointment:
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member.  Minimum starting salary is $60,000.  Depending upon professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment may be made at the assistant professor or associate professor level.  Benefits include 22 working days of vacation; 10 paid holidays; liberal sick leave; excellent University group health care plans; group life insurance; TIAA/CREF, Fidelity, or Vanguard retirement/annuity; and support for scholarly/professional activities.  Tenured faculty members are eligible for sabbatical leave.
