The Florida State University Libraries seek applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Administrative Services. This key position has primary responsibility for management of human resources within the libraries, particularly faculty recruitment and development. The position also provides strategic oversight of budget/accounting, facilities, marketing, communication, security and other administrative support functions. The AD for Administration reports to the Dean of University Libraries and serves on the Senior Management Team.
 
Position Description and Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership for the planning and analysis for allocation of new resources and reallocation of existing resources (including staffing, budget and space), to meet current needs and anticipate future priorities.
  • Serves as primary administrator for faculty appointment, reappointment, assignment of responsibilities, annual review, merit and promotion processes.
  • Facilitates and supports the collaborative development of policies and procedures.
  • Provides administrative oversight for the FSU Libraries space plans and renovation projects and monitors progress on facilities project budgets and expenditures.
  • Leads the conceptualization, design, implementation, coordination, and management of strategic planning, special project management, staff development, and other administrative initiatives in coordination with library managers.
  • Coordinates internship and student assistantship programs for the University Libraries.
  • Represents the FSU Libraries on various Florida State University committees and ad hoc groups and in local, regional and national arenas, as appropriate.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ of progressive experience in human resources administration or related field.
  • Flexibility to initiate and adapt to change and manage competing priorities.
  • Superior analytical skills, creative and innovative problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Expertise in relevant software applications.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills with the ability to be an effective and active listener and facilitator.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills with the ability to produce executive-level reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to accomplish objectives with sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated superior organizational abilities including facilitation and consultation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and foster teamwork among others, including managers and staff across other Library Divisions.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters of library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited institution or other appropriate Masters degree.
  • Formal project management training.
  • Experience in a labor union environment
  • Financial management experience
  • Grant development and management experience
  • Contract and license negotiation experience
  • Long-range facility planning experience
 
Salary:
Minimum $90,000. Offer commensurate with education and qualifications.
 
Additional Details:
This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment. Benefits include 22 days vacation, 13 days sick leave, group medical, dental, and life insurance, an optional retirement program or state retirement, and no state or local income tax. With Dean’s approval, may qualify for University tuition scholarship for up to six hours credit each semester.
