The J. Willard Marriot Library seeks an energetic, visionary, innovative, and accomplished professional for the position of Head of Collection Management. This is an excellent opportunity to work with collaborative, energetic, and enthusiastic colleagues who are dedicated to acquiring and making available scholarly resources for a thriving community of students, faculty, and researchers. Overseeing collection development, acquisitions in all formats, electronic resource management, and ILL/document-delivery services and reporting to the Associate Dean for Collections and Scholarly Communication, the successful candidate will:

• Provide strategic vision, leadership, and supervision of day-to-day activities in Collection Management.
• Provide leadership in the optimization of existing collecting strategies and processes and the development of new ones.
• Oversee management of a $4.3 million collections budget, working closely with the library’s Budget Director to plan, monitor, and manage expenditure.
• Supervise the Collection Development Librarian, collaborating with him/her on implementation and management of approval plans, demand-driven acquisition programs, firm order allocations and programs, on collection management projects (including strategic weeding and format shifts as appropriate), and on vendor relationship management.
• Provide administrative and budget-management services to the Utah Academic Library Consortium, and serve as the library’s representative to other consortial organizations as assigned.
• Working with the Associate Dean for Collections and Scholarly Communication, develop and implement new programs and strategies for shaping the library’s collections in all formats.

While this position focuses primarily on collection management, all faculty librarians serve the needs of University faculty, staff, and students along with members of the local community. Work across organizational lines is encouraged to support and strengthen all services in the Marriott Library. This position may participate as a member of the College and Interdisciplinary Teams as a library liaison to one or more academic departments. The Head of Collection Management will assist with implementing the Marriott Library’s Strategic Directions (http://bit.ly/1KBroYK) and will be expected to be professionally active through participation in appropriate professional societies and through research and publication.

Required qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS OR the equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience working in an academic library.
• Sufficient experience and professional accomplishment to qualify for tenure at time of appointment.
• At least six months of supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency and capability with information technology systems in the context of an academic Library
• Demonstrated budget management skill
• Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently, and to promote teamwork among colleagues.
• Ability to be proactive, flexible, and collaborative as a team leader in order to accomplish departmental, library, and institutional goals.
• Outstanding analytical, organizational, project, and time management skills and the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal skills and strong interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population.
• Capacity to thrive in the fast-paced, future-oriented environment of a research institution and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.
• Evidence of active participation and involvement in professional and scholarly associations and a record of scholarly engagement, typically demonstrated through publications and presentations, and commitment to professional issues and involvement.

Desired qualifications:
• Reading, writing, or speaking skills in a second language.
• Two years of supervisory experience of full time employees.
• One year of supervisory experience of tenure-track faculty.
• Experience supervising tenure-track faculty.

Compensation: $68,000-79,000 dependent on qualifications, plus excellent benefits including a 14.2% retirement contribution to TIAA-CREF/Fidelity, medical and dental coverage, and generous paid sick and vacation time.
