The University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) system is the largest academic library in Canada and is ranked fourth among peer institutions in North America. The system consists of 44 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of 215 graduate programs, over 60 professional programs, and more than 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 12 million print volumes, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 29,554 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year.  The Libraries' data centre houses more than 200 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes. 


The Opportunity
The University of Toronto Libraries seeks a creative, energetic, and forward thinking Liaison & Education Librarian to join the Mathematical Sciences and Earth Sciences Libraries. The individual will provide teaching, learning, and research support for the Department of Cell & Systems Biology and research and scholarly communications support for the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics. Applicants who have biology, mathematics or statistics subject expertise, demonstrated teaching and presentation skills, and who possess an understanding of research processes in the sciences are encouraged to apply. This position reports to the Head of the Mathematical Sciences and Earth Sciences Libraries.

Liaison & Education Librarian Responsibilities:
1. Work with faculty to embed information literacy in the Cell & System Biology curriculum and other mathematical sciences and earth sciences subject areas as required
2. Provide instruction on library resources and the research process
3. Conduct reference and research consultations with students and faculty
4. Provide research impact services for both libraries, and facilitate the creation of citation analysis and institutional ranking reports
5. Working with colleagues across the library, remain current with, and implement in practice, emerging concepts in scholarly communication, research data management, and instructional technology
6. Maintain and manage the Earth Sciences and Mathematical Sciences webpages using Drupal
7. Utilize assessment techniques and evidence-based decision making to inform changes and ensure the website is providing the best service possible to our users
8. Promote library services, resources, and events through the Earth Sciences and Mathematical Sciences websites and social media; collaborate with UTL's Communications Librarian as needed
9. Assist in assessing the monograph and serials collections for both libraries
10. Provide administrative oversight of the Earth Sciences and Mathematical Sciences Libraries in the absence of the Head as needed
11. Serve on library and faculty committees and working groups

Required Qualifications
1. ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree (or equivalent)
2. Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
3. Demonstrated research skills and knowledge of key databases in the sciences
4. Knowledge of the principles of information literacy and how they can be applied in an academic setting
5. A strong service commitment and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
6. Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively

Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience working in a liaison capacity in an academic sciences library
2. A graduate or undergraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, biology or related sciences
3. Demonstrated understanding of the scientific research process
4. Experience building solid relationships with faculty
5. Outreach experience promoting library services and resources to key user groups

Salary and Terms of Appointment
This is a permanent status position to be filled at the Librarian II level. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and academic/professional qualifications.
