The UNC Health Sciences Library seeks two Clinical Librarians to collaborate with a variety of clinical departments and to provide client-centered information and education using a variety of methods and technologies. As both team members and independently, the Clinical Librarians will be integral in building relationships with clinicians, staff, and students. The Clinical Librarians will identify information needs and maintain outreach to identified clinicians, staff, students and patients at UNC Medical Center/UNC Health Care.
Methods of engagement include: expert mediated searching to provide synthesized answers in response to advanced requests received from clinicians and patients, graduate and professional students, and researchers; proactive dissemination of clinical information to targeted audiences to help clinicians and researchers stay current; creation and maintenance of clinical information user guides focused on the needs of specific user populations, including the general public; effective and innovative client-centered education and knowledge management services using a variety of methods and technologies both in client settings and in the library; and individual and group consultations on information discovery, retrieval and management.
These positions report to the Clinical Services Coordinator, and may involve attending morning report on select days of the week.
Primary Responsibilities
Partner with clinical departments to support education, research, and health care.
· Develops and maintains expertise with content and information tools specific to clinical medicine, particularly in subjects relevant to current outreach assignments.
· Identifies needs, plans, and provides information and education to support evidence based practice.
· Works with faculty and residents to capture patient care questions, and identify relevant evidence for case presentations and publications.
· Conducts in-depth expert literature searches for research, quality improvement projects, guideline and clinical pathway development.
· Attends and provides information for department conferences, seminars, and presentations.
· Collaborates with key constituents on journal clubs, seminars, and other clinically focused projects.
· Provides guidance on presentation, poster, and manuscript preparation.
· Locates funding opportunities to support grant and award application.
· Provides in-depth consultations by appointment.
· Shares knowledge of patient education, consumer health and health literacy tools.
· Provide assistance needed by researchers to successfully conduct, manage, and report research.
Contribute to HSL support of clinical information needs.
· Attends hospital administration committee meetings as requested. Assesses and shares information specific to the clinical setting with library staff and administration.
· Develops and maintains user guides and tutorials promoting the use of clinical information resources.
· Recommends collection purchases that support clinical care, education and research.
· Designs and implements appropriate assessment of clinical services provided.
Professional development
· Pursues professional development, professional service activities, and publication, including publishing on clinical information service provision, as guided by the Committee on Appointments and Promotions.
· Participates in education programs to build subject domain knowledge relevant to service provision.
· Participates in technical training to keep skills current and develop new skills according to information technology trends and needs for this position.
Support cross-functional communication and accomplishment of library goals
· Participates in department and library-wide meetings, educational offerings, and other library groups as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
· ALA accredited Master’s degree in library or information science.
· Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a health sciences setting.
· Demonstrated ability to provide expert in-depth information searches in health care specific databases and other sources.
· Ability to synthesize medical information from a variety of sources.
· Demonstrated knowledge of patient education, consumer health, and health literacy resources.
· Experience providing instruction in an academic setting.
· Demonstrated knowledge of teaching and learning methods for adult learners.
· Excellent oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to multitask and set priorities in a dynamic environment.
· Demonstrated commitment to professional development and service through publication and/or active membership in professional organizations
· Commitment to supporting a diverse user population and an ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a diverse group of colleagues.
Desired:
· Experience providing clinical information services to diverse client groups.
· Experience providing search and knowledge management support for systematic review and clinical guideline teams.
· Experience, certification, or degree in health informatics, public health, nursing, or other health care related field.
· Familiarity with integrating point of care / patient education information in electronic health records or patient portals.
· Understanding of the clinical, translational and quality improvement research processes.
· Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals.

Salary and Benefits
This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Standard state benefits of annual leave, sick leave, and State or optional retirement plan.
