Howard-Tilton Memorial Library invites applications for the position of Coordinator for Scholarly Resources for the Humanities. The library seeks to build its professional staff by recruiting talented, energetic librarians interested in shaping the future of Tulane University and New Orleans.
Position Summary
The Coordinator for Scholarly Resources for the Humanities supports Tulane faculty and students in the humanities. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Libraries, the person in this position coordinates humanities collection development activities related to the general collections and selects materials for the library’s Rare Books area; provides and promotes humanities-related workshops and other instruction; liaises with students, faculty, and researchers individually or in groups to provide timely, relevant sources of information; evaluates information needs; and plans, implements, and assesses initiatives that support humanities faculty and students across campus. The Coordinator collaborates with counterparts in the social sciences and science & engineering to ensure a consistent team approach to collections to help the Library meet the challenges of collecting, managing, preserving, and providing access to scholarly resources in an era of fast-evolving information needs and publishing models. The coordinators for Scholarly Resources individually are expected to develop expertise in emerging technologies and lead and/or participate in innovative library projects.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent; advanced degree in a relevant humanities field; three or more years of professional experience in an academic or research library; collection development experience at the professional level, including significant financial responsibility in an academic library; reading knowledge in at least one European language; knowledge of the use and history of books and scholarly works as cultural objects, as well as the methods and means of acquiring rare items; knowledge of emerging publishing models for scholarly resources in humanities subjects; experience with research tools relevant to the humanities; related reference, and research consultation experience; strong interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, technology professionals, and library colleagues; enthusiasm for an innovative and cooperative environment; experience designing, delivering, and assessing library instruction for humanities disciplines.
Preferred: Reading knowledge in French; additional reading knowledge in German, Latin, Ancient Greek, Italian, or Russian would be valued; experience organizing exhibits; knowledge of the scholarly communications process (publishing, copyright, repositories); familiarity with grant funding requirements calling for public access publishing of research reports and research data.
