Vice Provost for Information Collaboration & Dean, University Libraries

Northeastern University Job Location: Massachusetts Date Created: 11-15-2016

Vice Provost for Information Collaboration & Dean, University Libraries

Northeastern University seeks a visionary and dynamic leader for the position of Vice Provost for Information Collaboration and Dean, University Libraries to guide Snell Library, the campus and the global network of students, staff, and faculty in innovative, collaborative, and collegial growth.

Reporting directly to the Provost, the Vice Provost & Dean participates on the Council of Deans, collaborates actively with the CIO, and is operationally responsible for strategic planning, budgeting and financial management, human resources, and information technology, and development of collections, services, and programs within the library. The Vice Provost & Dean will have the vision to foresee new opportunities and roles for the 21st-century academic library within research and curriculum; be able to manage a highly collaborative, complex organization with skill and integrity; have experience working in innovative, quick-paced environments; and will possess a deep understanding of issues relevant to academic librarianship. The Vice Provost & Dean will also be a driver in the expanding Makerspace on campus, much of which is housed within the library.

The incoming Vice Provost & Dean of the Snell Library will have the opportunity to increase the library's ability to deliver on its mission to be a true partner in the teaching and research enterprise of the University. Northeastern has grown tremendously in size and stature over the last decade, and keeping pace with this growth is both an opportunity and challenge for the Vice Provost & Dean. As the library evolves, encouraging staff development and creating a supportive partnership with the new research profile while matching resources to needs is a crucial balance.

As a campus administrator, the Vice Provost & Dean must forge strong, collaborative relationships with academic deans and leaders of administrative support units to further increase the integration of library resources and services into campus activities and the broader campus strategy. He/she will provide consultation on campus decisions regarding teaching and learning, open access, data repositories, and other significant issues involving information sharing and data management.

A master's degree from an ALA accredited library and information science program (or equivalent) or an advanced degree (e.g., PhD) is required.
