Prior to 2011, the RLLF program called each sponsor to provide two fellows; this is not a rigid requirement moving forward. The major requirements of sponsorship are on the library director's time and the institution's time and resources. The sponsor director plays a hands-on role as a member of the RLLF steering team, along with other directors. Sponsor directors meet for a one-hour conference call monthly and they work with the RLLF program coordinators as specific needs arise and in preparation for events. Sponsoring libraries will host either a five-day institute for the entire cohort or a three-day field visit for a sub-group of the cohort.
