Nan Seamans Bio

Share Share   Print

Nancy H. Seamans has worked at several different kinds of libraries—academic, health sciences, corporate, and public—during her career. The common thread has been her commitment to serving library users in an era of rapid changes in the technology of information delivery and retrieval. In August 2008, Seamans was appointed Dean of Libraries at Georgia State University. Previously she was the Associate University Librarian/Director, Research and Instructional Services at the University of Iowa Libraries. She has also been Director of Instruction, Reference, and Outreach for the University Libraries at Virginia Tech.

Seamans is the author or co-author of journal articles and book chapters, and has served on committees of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) as well as of the Virginia Library Association (VLA) and Iowa Library Association (ILA). Her research interests have included information literacy, electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), and assessment of library teaching. Seaman's undergraduate degree, in political science, is from Virginia Tech; her MSLS is from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and her PhD, in instructional technology, is from Virginia Tech.
