Ann Snowman bio

Ann Snowman has served as Head of Access Services since 2002 when she joined the Pennsylvania State University Libraries. She provides direction and leadership to a department of 52 staff and faculty distributed among six specialized service units. Current projects and assignments include: CIC Google Digitization Project (co-director); Knowledge Commons Steering Committee; Assessment and Metrics Council; Alumni Library (project manager); Job Competencies Design Team; and sponsor of University Park Libraries’ in-service day, which she envisioned and implemented. A member of the Dean’s Library Council, Ann participates in libraries-wide policy formation and strategic planning and represents the interests of her service units in a variety of venues.

Ann’s professional service currently includes recent election as Secretary, LLAMA/SASS; Board Treasurer of Interlibrary Delivery Services of Pennsylvania; and Mentoring Chair of the local chapter of the Pennsylvania Library Association.

Prior to Penn State, Ann held several positions in the libraries of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Ann holds an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Ricker, College of the Northeast; a BA in communications and an MLS from the Rutgers School of Communication, Information, and Library Studies.

Honors and Awards include: Emerging Leaders Institute, a 1997 initiative of ALA President, Mary Somerville; Beta Phi Mu, International Library Science Honor Society, inducted 1996; New Jersey PTA, Life Membership, awarded in 1984 for work to develop an elementary school library.
