Research Library Leadership Fellows Program

RLLF Fellows

Ben Walker bio

Ben Walker is the Head of the Shared Collection Facility at the University of Florida (UF). Previously, Ben was the assistant chair of Access Services, overseeing stacks management and remote storage. Prior to joining UF, he was the Acquisitions and Technical Services Librarian at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Ben’s current responsibility is oversight of UF’s storage needs. However, the planning and coordination for a shared high-density storage facility, open to all 11 state university libraries, is his current focus. This project is still in its early phase, but significant communications at both the state and local level have been ongoing since 2007.

Ben received his MS in library studies from Florida State University in 2002. In April 2009, he passed his candidacy exam for his PhD in higher education administration at the University of Florida, and has currently completed all but the dissertation. He plans to research succession planning in academic libraries, with a particular focus on land-grant universities in the Southeast. Ben is very excited about the RLLF Fellows program, as it dovetails with his academic interests, as well as his future goals within the profession.
