Arlene Weismantel is Head of Reference at Michigan State University (MSU) Libraries. Prior to coming to MSU, Arlene was Acquisitions Librarian for the Mayo Clinic Library in Rochester, Minnesota. While there, she also managed the Mayo Medical Bookstore and implemented their automated bookstore inventory and point-of-sale system as well as the acquisitions module of the integrated library system.

Arlene joined the staff at MSU Libraries in 2000 as Health Sciences Librarian. As the libraries’ liaison to the Colleges of Nursing and Osteopathic Medicine, she developed and managed the libraries’ collections in these disciplines while actively engaged in providing general reference service. Arlene assumed her present role as Head of Main Library Reference in 2005. Her responsibilities cover the full range of the unit’s services with particular emphasis on the libraries’ communications with patrons on- and off-campus through in-person, e-mail, chat, and instant messaging venues.

Arlene earned her A.B. in English and her master's of information and library studies at the University of Michigan.
