Catherine Wilkins bio

Catherine Wilkins has served as the head of the D.B. Weldon Library since joining University of Western Ontario Libraries in 2006. She has administrative responsibility for the D.B. Weldon Library and is a member of the Western Libraries Executive team. In the course of her career she has worked the continuum of libraries, including coordinating school library programs for K–12 and developing a professional library for educators at the Peel District School Board in Mississauga, Ontario. In the college sector she was Director of Learning Resources for Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. The D. B. Weldon Library serves both the research/scholarship and teaching/learning needs of the faculties of Arts and Humanities, Social Science, and Information and Media Studies. The needs of this diverse user community are ever changing and Catherine is leading a visioning project for Weldon that is enabling staff to embrace new directions, services, operations, and library spaces. Catherine is involved in university governance as an elected member of Senate, and the Board of Governor’s Advisory Committee to the McIntosh Gallery.

Catherine has a bachelor of music and a master's of library science from the University of Western Ontario. She holds a master's of education and a doctorate in education from the University of Toronto. Her doctoral dissertation dealt with the transformation of libraries and presented a planning model for the development of future library structures, change management, and addressed the changing role of the librarian. She is currently working on a manuscript dealing with change management for libraries.
