Tuesday, April 1, 2014, is the last day to register at early-bird rates for the Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) courses being offered by ARL and the Society of American Archivists (SAA) at University of Alberta, April 21–25. You do not need to work at an ARL library to register for the courses at this site—they are open to all librarians and archivists.

Do you want to develop your skills for appraising, capturing, preserving, and providing access to born-digital special collections? Could you use some insight into working with donors? Would you like to grow your community of colleagues, especially those located in western Canada or the northwestern United States? Register for one or more of these four courses:

  • April 21: Digital Curation: Creating an Environment for Success
  • April 22: Digital Archives and Libraries
  • April 23: Preserving Digital Archives
  • April 24–25: Digital Forensics for Archivists (Parts I and II)

Registration

Register online at the SAA website. Registration is per course—you are not required to sign up for the whole week but are offered a package discount if you do.

Early-bird registration prices—valid through April 1—are based on your status as one of the following:

  • SAA member: $189/day
  • Employee of an SAA institutional member: $219/day
  • Employee of an ARL member institution: Contact Judy Ruttenberg for the co-sponsor promotion code to register at $224/day or $179/day if all four courses are taken (a substantial discount from the non-member price).

Future Offerings

The special weeklong offering of the four DAS courses will be held at the following additional locations in spring 2014:

  • Emory University: May 19–23
  • University of Minnesota: June 9–13

Visit the SAA website for details and to register.

The courses will be offered at a few more ARL institutions later in 2014, locations and dates to be determined.
