ARL has appointed Carlette Washington-Hoagland as a visiting program officer (VPO) for diversity and leadership programs, effective today, October 1, 2014. Washington-Hoagland will take the lead in managing the assessment of the ARL Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP), will organize a review of ARL mentor programs to inform component enhancements, will contribute to the planning of the annual ARL Leadership Symposium, and will support other research projects and programs as needed.
Washington-Hoagland serves as the coordinator of staff development and diversity programming at the University of Iowa Libraries, where she has been employed in various roles since 1997. She was one of the first recipients of the ARL Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce scholarships in 2002 and is an alumna of the ARL LCDP. She holds an MA in library and information science from the University of Iowa, an MS in sociology from Iowa State University, and a BS in social work from Southern University and A&M College. Washington-Hoagland brings a wealth of experience in assessment, diversity and inclusion, leadership development, and many other areas that will be key to her engagement with ARL programs.

In return, Carlette’s experience as VPO will make our own programs better in the future.”
