The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has published the sixth profile in a series highlighting digital scholarship support at ARL member libraries. The latest installment in this series features the work of the Brown University Library.
The Brown University profile presents a brief history of the evolution of digital scholarship support at Brown, focusing on the Center for Digital Scholarship, a cross-departmental group based in the university library that offers services and consultations. Two digitally enabled spaces housed in the library, the Patrick Ma Digital Scholarship Lab and the Sidney E. Frank Digital Studio, are covered by the profile as well.
This profile describes the current work of Brown’s Center for Digital Scholarship—including information about staffing, services, events, and collaborations—and concludes with a discussion of promising new initiatives that the center is undertaking to strengthen digital scholarship. Three established projects are featured in and linked to from the profile: the Herbarium, an online repository of digitized plant specimens; Inscriptions of Israel/Palestine, a searchable corpus of ancient inscriptions with English translations; and Asia-Pacific in the Making of the Americas, an interdisciplinary research initiative that brings together a global community of scholars.
