Return on Investment (ROI): Lib-Value Workshop

Washington DC—The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) invites all interested parties to attend a Lib-Value workshop on the current state of the art regarding return-on-investment (ROI) methods in academic libraries. The workshop will engage interested parties with a review of methodologies developed and applied to date and will engage the audience in expanding our understanding of how we can measure, describe, and articulate the value of libraries in today’s competitive environment.

Lib-Value is a three-year study, funded by a grant from IMLS, with the ultimate goal of understanding how to measure value and return on investment (ROI) in all aspects of academic libraries. The workshop is a collaborative effort of ARL with the University of Tennessee, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and George Washington University.

Key members of the grant will speak at the workshop:

• Paula Kaufman, Dean of Libraries and University Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign;
• Donald W. King, University of Tennessee and Bryant University;
• Bruce Kingma, Associate Provost for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Syracuse University;
• Martha Kyrillidou, Senior Director of ARL Statistics and Service Quality Programs, Association of Research Libraries; and
• Regina Mays, Program Manager of the Lib-Value grant, University of Tennessee.
