Registration Deadline Extended for Scholarly Communication Workshop on Strategic Skills

Early-Bird Discount Ends Friday, November 30

Washington, DC—The early-bird registration deadline has been extended for the ARL-ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication (ISC) workshop, “Increasing the Effectiveness of Your Scholarly Communication Program: Strategic Skills for Success,” to be held April 9–10, 2013, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Register by Friday, November 30, 2012, at the discounted rate of $175 per person. On December 1, the rate will increase to $225.

If you are working with library colleagues, faculty, and researchers on your campus for change in scholarly communication and you want to develop deeper impact, you won’t want to miss this workshop, led by expert facilitators Melanie Hawks and Paul Meyer. In the tradition of other ISC events, this workshop will emphasize active learning and hands-on work by participants, both individually and in groups. Throughout the workshop, you will have structured opportunities to reflect on how to apply what you are learning to strategic planning within your own institution, to share information and test ideas with other workshop participants, and to begin developing skills to influence campus colleagues.

More Information & Registration

Learn more about this workshop, including the agenda, learning outcomes, target audience, hotel information, and registration. Registration for the ARL-ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication workshop is coordinated by ARL and is a separate process from registration for the ACRL 2013 Conference or its pre-conferences. Registration will close on January 31, 2013, unless the workshop fills earlier.

The Institute on Scholarly Communication is jointly sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries and the Association of College and Research Libraries to promote the development of library-led outreach on scholarly communication issues. Hundreds of institute alumni form a community that provides peer support and professional sharing of information relating to campus outreach. The institute's signature event is an immersive learning experience that prepares participants as local experts within their libraries and provides a structure for developing a program plan for scholarly communication outreach that is customized for each participant's institution. The institute is on the web at http://www.arl.org/sc/institute/.

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is a nonprofit organization of 125 research libraries in the US and Canada. Its mission is to influence the changing environment of scholarly communication and the public policies that affect research libraries and the diverse communities they serve. ARL pursues this mission by advancing the goals of its member research libraries, providing leadership in public and information policy to the scholarly and higher education communities, fostering the exchange of ideas and expertise, facilitating the emergence of new roles for research libraries, and shaping a future environment that leverages its interests with those of allied organizations. ARL is on the web at http://www.arl.org/.

ACRL is a division of the American Library Association (ALA), representing more than 12,000 academic and research librarians and interested individuals. ACRL is the only individual membership organization in North America that develops programs, products and services to meet the unique needs of academic and research librarians. Its initiatives enable the higher education community to understand the role that academic libraries play in the teaching, learning and research environments. ACRL is on the web at http://www.acrl.org/, Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ala.acrl, and Twitter at @ala_acrl.
