ARL-ACRL ISC Webinar Series, Seventh Webinar Opens: Broader Library Involvement in Building Programs

Register by October 13

Washington DC—Registration has opened for the seventh webinar in the ARL-ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication (ISC) series, Strengthening Programs through Collaboration. The webinar, “Broader Library Involvement in Building Programs—Librarian Training and Development,” is scheduled for October 19, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT, and is the second of two webinars that focus specifically on the roles of librarians in education and outreach regarding scholarly communications issues. Presenters will discuss how to prepare librarians to take on this new challenge, providing them with the tools and training to speak confidently and answer questions about scholarly communications issues. How disciplinary differences factor into librarian education also will be discussed. The registration deadline is October 13, 2010.

The scheduled speakers include:

• Karen Williams, Associate University Librarian for Academic Programs, University of Minnesota Libraries
• Ellen Finnie Duranceau, Program Manager, Scholarly Publishing and Licensing, MIT Libraries

The eight-part ISC webinar series is targeted to those who are in the midst of creating their own institutional scholarly communication program. This program will enable those who have responsibilities for working with staff and colleagues an opportunity to share experiences.

The Institute on Scholarly Communication (ISC) is jointly sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries and the Association of College and Research Libraries to promote the development of library-led outreach on scholarly communication issues. Hundreds of institute alumni form a community that provides peer support and professional sharing of information relating to campus outreach. The institute’s first signature event was an in-person immersive learning experience that prepared participants as local experts within their libraries and provided a structure for developing a program plan for scholarly communication outreach that is customized for each participant's institution.
