ARL/ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication in Portland--Deadline Extended to Oct. 6, '08

Washington DC—A limited number of seats still remain for the regional ARL/ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication, hosted by the Orbis Cascade Alliance December 1–3, 2008, in Portland, Oregon. The application deadline has been extended to October 6, 2008. Please note that acceptance to the institute is competitive. The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is a nonprofit organization of 123 research libraries in North America. Its mission is to influence the changing environment of scholarly communication and the public policies that affect research libraries and the diverse communities they serve. ARL pursues this mission by advancing the goals of its member research libraries, providing leadership in public and information policy to the scholarly and higher education communities, fostering the exchange of ideas and expertise, and shaping a future environment that leverages its interests with those of allied organizations. The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is a division of the American Library Association (ALA), representing more than 13,000 academic and research librarians and interested individuals. The Orbis Cascade Alliance is a consortium of 35 academic libraries in Oregon and Washington. The Alliance provides the popular Summit union catalog that allows students, faculty, and staff to easily search and request library materials owned by member libraries. To provide fast, efficient delivery, the Alliance maintains a courier service providing daily pick-up and delivery of library materials at libraries in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The Alliance is also home to the Northwest Digital Archives and provides cooperative purchasing opportunities for databases, electronic journals, and other digital library service.
