Clifford Lynch to Speak at ALA Annual Conference in Chicago

Next weekend at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Chicago, CNI executive director Clifford Lynch will participate in two panel discussions about libraries and technology. He will take part in the Digital Content Working Group (DCWG) panel “ALA, E-Books & Digital Content: What’s Next?” on Saturday, June 29, 1:00-2:30 p.m., in the McCormick Place Convention Center room S502. He will also participate in “LITA’s Top Technology Trends Panel” on Sunday, June 30, at 1:00 p.m., in convention center room S105a-c.

ARL, SAA Partner to Offer Digital Archives Specialist Courses at ARL Libraries

U Miami Appoints Yolanda Cooper Acting Dean and University Librarian

Yolanda L. Cooper, deputy university librarian and a librarian associate professor at University of Miami, was named acting dean and university librarian, effective June 1, 2013. Cooper will serve in her interim role until a permanent replacement is appointed for William D. Walker, who stepped down as dean and university librarian on May 31 after 10 years in the position. Over 100 Civil Liberties Organizations and Internet Companies Demand Full-Scale Congressional Investigation of NSA Surveillance

The coalition includes ARL, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the American Civil Liberties Union, and many other organizations and companies concerned with privacy and civil liberties.

HathiTrust to Partner with DPLA, Contributing 3.5 Million Books

DPLA provides an online portal to freely available digital material held by libraries, archives, and museums across the United States. The HathiTrust Digital Library offers a collection of millions of titles digitized from academic and research institutions around the world. The new partnership doubles the size of the DPLA collection and provides a wider audience for the HathiTrust titles.

CRL to Offer Tours during ALA Annual Conference in Chicago

MINES for Libraries®: Measuring the Impact of Networked Electronic Services—Call for Participation

Measuring the Impact of Networked Electronic Services (MINES for Libraries, or MINES) is an online, transaction-based survey that collects data on user demographics and the purpose of use of e-resources. The MINES project utilizes a point-of-use survey technique and integrates usage data about such electronic resources as digital collections, open access journals, pre-print and post-print servers, and institutional repositories to provide an inclusive picture of the library’s supported networked e-resources. MINES has been administered at more than 50 North American libraries since 2003, surveying more than 100,000 networked services users.
