ARL Statistics

University Library Statistics

The Joint Committee on University Library Standards was appointed early in 1968 by ARL and the Association of College and Research Libraries for the purpose of formulating a statement of standards on various aspects of university library operations and administration. The committee collected data from 50 libraries on resources, personnel, finance, space, public service, administration, and professional school libraries prior to any attempt to develop standards. That raw data is presented in this volume.

Lies, Damned Lies, ... and ARL Statistics?

In 1986, Kendon Stubbs reported on the ARL Statistics Committee's examination of ARL data. This paper is intended to summarize the committee's work under the topics of (1) problems with the data that ARL collects; (2) problems with what ARL does not collect; (3) problems with data collection generally; and (4) proposed courses of action by the committee.
