Description
Lewis University, sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, is a dynamic and growing institution located 25 miles SW of Chicago. As a Catholic and LaSallian institution, we serve a diverse population of over 6500 undergraduate and graduate students at our main campus and our six satellite locations. Lewis University is seeking a collaborative, innovative, visionary leader to direct the library while making it the central hub for learning and scholarship on campus. The new library director will have the opportunity to lead the library in creating a vision and strategic plan for a library that is transforming physically and academically to meet the needs of the 21st century learner and teacher.
Responsibilities include:
• Model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Catholic and LaSallian Mission.
• Provide leadership for the development and implementation of a new vision of the Library that enhances the quality of the library's programs and services, leads the library in its transformation for 21st century, supports the University's mission and vision in teaching, learning, scholarship, service, and campus/community engagement.
• Create a library strategic plan aligned and supportive of The Strategic Plan for Lewis Unversity 2012-2017.
• Collaborate with university constituencies in the integration of appropriate technology, collection development, policy development, funding, and assessment of library services.

Provide positive, collaborative leadership and supervision for all aspects of the library.
• Manage library facilities and resources promoting stewardship and increasing the effective achievement of library and university goals.
• Propose and administer library budget according to university policy and procedures.
• Work effectively with college deans and college faculty in the support of academic programs.
• Develop and supervise liaison programs with academic units and programs
• Provide leadership for the Library Advisory Committee.
• Foster information literacy through innovative delivery of library and information services to diverse constituents.
• Network with other libraries, librarians, organizations to keep current with library and information literacy standards and practices, and represent the university in the community.
The ideal candidate will have:
• Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited program
• Second master’s degree in a content area
• 5 years’ experience in successful library administration
• Demonstrated previous experience with strategic planning, facilities management, accreditation and outcomes assessment
• Evidence of leadership in collaborative activities
• Knowledge of emerging trends and issues in college and university libraries and related instructional/information technologies
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Proved track record of successful management and leadership within a college or university library
• Demonstrated ability to lead new initiatives consonant with the liberal arts university
• Demonstrated effective budget management
• Demonstrated ability to lead, evaluate and supervise library faculty and staff
• Evidence of commitment to diverse populations who utilize library resources
• Demonstrated knowledge of technological applications and trends in university libraries
The Director of the Library will have a direct line reporting relationship to the Provost’s Office.
