Description

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Director of Strategic Communication will serve as an advisor to the Dean and other senior Libraries administration. Provide communications counsel to leadership of Libraries to advance institutional priorities among diverse and numerous audiences, including senior University administration, members of the academic community, alumni and donors, the Greater Lafayette community and the academic library profession as well as Libraries’ public-facing resources such as e-Archives, the Press, PURR, and Purdue e-Pubs. Create, maintain, and implement a strategic communication plan and program. Instruct and inform faculty and staff on internal and external communication policies and procedures. Participates in and helps formulate communications and presentations to key constituents, inside and outside the University. Establish guidelines, in consultation with Libraries administration and managers, for official Libraries, Copyright Office, and Press communication in traditional and social media. Manage and monitor their continued delivery and evolution. Serve as interface between Libraries and the Director of Advancement. Will work cohesively in managing donor communications through publications, news media, and special events. Required Qualifications: •BA/BS. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing/public relations or communication required or other related degree. •Five years of experience in position with similar responsibilities in strategic marketing or public relations, or a position that would provide candidate with experience that would give a solid basis and provide a natural transition into the position. •Experience working in a complex, multi-faceted organization that requires in depth knowledge of the organization. •High-level of computer skills including MS Office applications and HTML (website maintenance). •Knowledge of all phases and types of communication including traditional as well as newer forms such as social media.
