Description
Western Michigan University School of Medicine (med.wmich.edu) seeks a dynamic Library Director to provide vision, leadership, and strategic planning for all service and administrative functions of the WMU School of Medicine Library, ensuring that the Library’s activities support and enrich the School’s mission and goals.
Western Michigan University is collaborating with Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare to create a four-year allopathic medical school in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Building on the legacy of medical entrepreneurship in Kalamazoo, we are developing an innovative and exciting medical school that is learner centered, discovery driven, globally engaged, and patient and family focused. This is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in creating state-of-the-art library services for our new medical school. A $68 million renovation and expansion project is scheduled to be completed by May 2014, in time for the first class of medical students to begin in August 2014.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Administration & Finance, the Library Director:
•Directs strategic planning for the library and
library services.
•Oversees all library operations including budget
preparation, allocation of resources,evaluation
of services, development of policies, and
supervision of staff.
•Maintains close relationships with students,
faculty, staff and administrators to coordinate
and plan information services for the medical
school community.
•Provides instruction and works with the School
of Medicine faculty to integrate library science
and informatics into the medical student and
resident curricula, and in the clinical
environment.
•Leads outreach and advocacy efforts for the
library, and collaborates in development efforts.
•Fosters ongoing collaboration and engagement
both internally and externally.
•Chairs the Library Committee and represents the
library internally on School of Medicine
leadership committees, and externally to
collaborating partners and the community at
large. Serves as the institutional liaison to
the Association of Academic Health Sciences
Libraries (AAHSL).
•Investigates new and emerging information
resources and delivery mechanisms.
Qualifications:
•Masters degree in library or information
sciences from a program accredited by the
American Library Association required.
•Minimum of five (5) years of managerial
experience in a biomedical library is preferred,
including successful supervision of professional
staff.
•Experienced and proficient in the use of
information technologies, automated library
systems and data management.
•Academy of Health Information Professionals
credential preferred.
