Position Summary (abbreviated): The University of Arizona Libraries seeks a service-oriented professional who welcomes the opportunity to help coordinate and manage two-way communication, environmental scanning and needs assessment activities of the University of Arizona's academic and research units focused on their research and instruction and the library products/services that support them. This includes developing liaison partnerships with departments to learn about their needs, interviewing faculty and students, compiling and assessing department needs by identifying trends, changes in curriculum and research. This individual would promote campus awareness of library resources and services. Additionally, the librarian manages information resources in all formats; evaluates and selects resource in assigned areas. In addition, the individual provides in-depth reference consultations in assigned disciplines; and disciplinary or linguistics in support to other library staff or services, as needed. Appointment at the Associate level requires demonstration of the achievements, abilities and expected excellence defined in the Libraries Promotion and Continuing Status criteria. Duties and Responsibilities: * Engage in two-way communication with faculty, students and researchers through a variety of means to learn about the needs, activities, and trends in their departments, programs, units, and professions. Compile and assess information to identify curricular and research support opportunities and inform the development and assessment of library services and resources. Communicate directly to relevant teams or individuals in the libraries the needs and opportunities matching their responsibilities. * Promote library services and information resources to faculty, students and researchers that support their curriculum, learning and research. * Participate in library strategic planning, development or improvement of services supporting research and teaching by identifying, collecting, analyzing and applying relevant data, information and research studies to inform the team and the Library. * Apply knowledge of customer information needs, information seeking behavior, and information resources in assigned disciplines to develop requirements for publisher and vendor products and criteria to inform selection of serials, databases, and other access to information. * Keep abreast of new trends (models) in research and scholarly communication including publishing and use of information resources within assigned disciplinary areas. * Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and publishers to learn about new products available to meet information needs, advocate for development or improvement of products to better meet customer needs, and enhance customer discovery of resources needed for their work. * Provide in-depth reference and research consultation to faculty, students and researchers as well as disciplinary or linguistic support to other library staff or services (e.g. instruction, interlibrary loan, digital projects, etc.) as needed. * As a member of the library profession, the Library Faculty Assembly and the general faculty of the University of Arizona, actively contribute to the library profession through research, service and scholarship, and engage in faculty governance of the Libraries and the University through service in the Library Faculty Assembly and on appropriate University committees. Minimum Qualifications: * Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution. Opened:  11/13/12; Closes:  Open Until Filled; First Review Date: 1/14/13.
