College Librarian Bowdoin College Brunswick, Maine Bowdoin College seeks an exceptional and innovative library administrator to serve as its College Librarian. Reporting to the Dean for Academic Affairs and working with Bowdoin’s President, the successful candidate will lead the Library in providing outstanding services that support the academic mission of the Bowdoin community. Founded in 1794, Bowdoin is one of the oldest and finest coeducational, residential liberal arts colleges in the country. Bowdoin’s is a distinguished liberal arts college library with roots deep within the College’s history. Originally the private library of James Bowdoin, today the Library is an intellectual center of the campus and an invaluable resource for students and faculty as well as for outside scholars and community members. The new Librarian will assume leadership of this vital College resource at a time of change in the acquisition, dissemination, and preservation of knowledge. She or he will develop and implement a shared vision for the Library that will support the College’s plans and purpose, lead a strong and effective library staff, build on established ties to Maine’s academic and public libraries, and inventively manage the Library’s considerable resources. The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of the challenges facing academic libraries today, creative leadership, and a passion for the mission and goals of an outstanding liberal arts college. He or she will have experience in the development and execution of strategic plans, a history of successful staff development and team-building, the ability to implement effectively proven trends and innovation, and the expertise to balance support of the Library’s traditional services with the development of new strategies for teaching, learning, and scholarship. Candidates should have an advanced degree in librarianship or a relevant field of study and a record of progressively more responsible positions in library administration.
