JOB MISSION
The mission of this position is to plan, implement and manage a comprehensive assessment program devoted to the study and analysis of library user needs, expectations, and behaviors. The position provides innovative leadership and direction for assessment activities. The incumbent advises the library Administrative Council about current research findings. It also identifies and recommends new services or changes to existing services in response to user needs or to improve the public interface and functionality of existing library services. This position disseminates findings to the Lee library community and the larger library community as needed.
This position works with library faculty and staff, the Process Improvement Specialist, and all library departments to ensure that library services, tools, and interfaces are usable, reflect user needs and preferences, and enhance user experience and satisfaction with the library. The position also collaborates with the Process Improvement Specialist to build, maintain, and improve the collection of and access to library data and to foster a culture of assessment in the library.

Librarianship: Professional Assignments
• Demonstrates effectiveness in specified professional responsibilities within:
o Management/Administration
Meets regularly with the AUL for Scholarly Communications, Assessment, and Personnel to plan and coordinate library-wide assessment projects.
• Works closely with library’s Process Improvement Specialist to implement assessment projects and to gather, analyze, and report data.
• Keeps abreast of trends and developments that impact library services and proposes new or upgraded services informed by assessment studies reflecting user needs and expectations.
• Maintains and expands knowledge of university assessment programs and encourages library inclusion where appropriate.
• Chairs assessment coordination meetings.
o Research Support
In conjunction with the Process Improvement Specialist:
• Consults with library personnel considering, intending, or planning assessment of services, units, etc.
• Assists library personnel with IRB issues, including IRB completion, study design, survey methodology, etc.
• Provides library-wide training on assessment methodologies.
• Contributes to the Library Assessment page on the intranet.
• Implements a comprehensive data collection and reporting tool.
Works collegially with Anthropology 247 professor and students to perform ethnographic studies of library issues.
o Technology/Digital Projects
Maintains familiarity with assessment analysis tools.
Maintains familiarity with SiteCatalyst, decision support systems, and web and learning analytics tools.
o Other Duties as Assigned

• Participates in appropriate professional associations.
Librarianship: Scholarship/Creative Work
Although it is anticipated that scholarship or creative works activities will naturally flow out of specific professional assignments, such activities may legitimately engage the broader field of librarianship. Examples of the proactive communication desired include the following:
• Presenting research, or innovative or unique information, at library, professional or scholarly meetings. Examples of format may include presentations, panel participation, poster sessions, or other accepted means of scholarly communication at meetings.
• Publishing original contributions that benefit the library profession and/or the world of academic scholarship. In format these may range from traditional print publications to the creation and maintenance of recognized and valued online contributions.
• Curating exhibits that highlight unique library materials with a unified theme and context, providing significant educational opportunities for the campus community.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s Degree Required. MLS from an ALA-accredited institution preferred. Individuals with related education or work experience and who are committed to completing the MLS within a specified period of time may be considered.
• Additional degree in adult learning, measurement, evaluation, statistics, or assessment is preferred.
• Knowledge of current and emerging models and trends in assessment practices.
• Subject expertise at a level to understand the delivery of library services and resources in both physical and electronic environments. Advanced knowledge and use of library information systems and online information retrieval systems (OPACs, databases, web-based systems). Public service skills in the electronic environment.
• Knowledge of and competence in quantitative and qualitative assessment methodologies and analysis.
• Demonstrated potential for leadership in envisioning, creating, planning, facilitating, and evaluating projects. Must actively pursue professional involvement in assessment-related organizations.
• Ability and desire to interact with students and faculty.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Expected to participate in library-wide and university-level committees and task forces related to assessment issues.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty, and students.
• Ability to teach and train library personnel in data collection methodologies and techniques.
• Flexibility. Recognizing the dynamic nature of academic librarianship, the successful Assessment Librarian must be able to adapt to changing organizational priorities and to ever-changing technological environments.
• Technical Skills. Demonstrated familiarity with tools commonly used to deliver library services both onsite and remotely. Demonstrated familiarity with statistical and qualitative analysis tools.
