DEPARTMENT: Research, Instruction & Outreach (RIO)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This tenure-track position reports to the Head of Research, Instruction & Outreach and will act as the department’s primary liaison to various disciplines encompassing the Sciences and Engineering.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific responsibilities will include:
• Actively participate in the library’s instruction and outreach program with a heavy emphasis on promoting information literacy campus-wide.
• Provide reference services in creative and innovative ways including personal contact with departments and utilizing various technology tools as needed.
• Develop and maintain the sciences reference materials in both print and digital forms as well as making specific recommendations to purchase research materials germane to the sciences.
• Contribute to Ask A Librarian and other virtual reference services as needed.
• Maintain as well as enhance web-based research guides pertinent to assigned sciences areas.
• Engage and interact with all Library user communities through formal and informal channels to determine user needs.
• Contribute substantially to the planning, development and assessment of departmental policies.
• Explores, evaluates and encourages integration of emergent technology into library services.
In addition, the position requires service on various teams and committees as assigned as well as other duties in support of RIO and the Libraries. Engage in scholarly pursuit and other professional and service activities in accordance with Texas Tech University Libraries’ Standards for promotion and tenure.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program or international equivalent. Preferred: Experience or course work in the use of both electronic and traditional print reference tools with special emphasis in the sciences. Evidence of a strong customer service orientation coupled with an ability to interact positively and productively in a collegial academic environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. A general knowledge of the information needs of the sciences and an understanding of current trends and issues in this area, including digitization and institutional repositories. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment. Evidence of ability to meet Texas Tech Library’s requirements for promotion and tenure.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: The position is a 12-month appointment with a nationally
competitive salary. Librarians and archivists have academic status and are an integral part
