JOB DETAILS

Title: Director
Appointment Percentage: Full-time, 100%
Anticipated Start Date: 7/1/2013
Term: One-year initial appointment, renewable.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
• Advanced degree (i.e., master’s degree or higher) in Library or Information Science or related field
• Two years or more of demonstrated experience in library leadership with administrative and supervisory responsibilities
• Demonstrated experience in using electronic databases, books, media and/or other resources
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, assessment, and evaluation
Preferred Qualifications:
• A second advanced degree (i.e., master’s degree or higher) relevant to the position
• Effective oral, written and electronic communication skills
• Advanced training or coursework in leadership and supervision
• Documented leadership in engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
• Knowledge of emerging trends and issues in academic libraries and instructional technologies resources
• Two or more years of work experience within an academic library
• Knowledge of and experience in implementing innovative library technologies to serve the academic community in teaching, learning and research
• Demonstrated experience in adapting to changing demands and roles of academic libraries and librarians
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, the Director is expected to work efficiently and effectively, striving for improvement, innovation and excellence in all aspects of the University Library while following university and UW System policies, rules, regulations and guidelines. Additional responsibilities of the position include:
• Provide strategic vision and leadership in the design and development of a comprehensive, progressive approach to making library collections accessible, regardless of content and library management applications.
• Assess and manage procedures for the acquisition, description, and dissemination of all resources.
• Review and modify University Library processes to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and quality services.
• Develop effective, collaborative, interdepartmental teams and prioritize projects based on feasibility, use of resources and institutional impact.
• Initiate integration and delivery of all University Library resources and services.
• Plan for and develop policies, procedures, services and resources to meet the curricular needs of the academic colleges and the community.
• Recruit, supervise and motivate University Library staff to promote a cohesive library workforce capable of and enthusiastic about providing friendly professional assistance to all users on campus and in the community.
• Keep abreast of and anticipate future library trends by attending professional development conferences and reading appropriate professional literature.
• Provide leadership for budgetary development, budgetary management and accessing new revenue streams.
• Supervise the Robert S. Swanson Learning Center building and University Library to ensure that facilities are safe, accessible, effective, efficient and inviting.
• Participate actively in relevant professional organizations and serve as an advocate and leader, representing the University Library at the campus, community, state and national levels.
• Serve as the Copyright Officer for the university.
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
The University of Wisconsin-Stout is seeking an individual for the position of Director to lead, supervise and coordinate all aspects of the University Library in the Robert S. Swanson Learning Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Director must exercise strong leadership, including collaborative, supervisory and technical skills that balance campus and community needs for electronic, virtual resources and for books, periodicals and other physical resources, creating an outstanding learning environment.
CAMPUS INFORMATION
A member of the University of Wisconsin System, UW-Stout serves approximately 9,300 students in 20 graduate and 40 undergraduate programs. UW-Stout is a 2001 Baldrige Award Recipient, supporting a progressive, learning-centered, quality-based educational environment that is focused on continuous improvement. A leader in adopting new technology, UW-Stout is a digital campus and all faculty and staff are required to use available technology in their positions including course delivery.
