Programs 4A and 4B in the webinar series will focus on organizing and training the library staff and librarians to achieve library scholarly communications roles. Speakers will address shifting roles of libraries and the infrastructure needed to sustain programs, allocating/reallocating staff resources, and building internal education programs to support outreach efforts. Program 4A will focus on shifting staff roles and Program 4B will focus on education and training.
Learning Outcomes
- Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the shifting nature of library work as it relates to supporting a scholarly communications program.
- Participants will learn tools and techniques for planning a librarian training program.
- Participants will gain an understanding of the techniques case study libraries are using to sustain scholarly communications programs and the time and effort being devoted to these programs.
- Participants will gain an understanding of potential new support for scholarly communication, both from within the library and elsewhere on campus.

Case studies will highlight the time and energy scholarly communications activities are taking at their institutions and how the work is managed.

4B: Broader Library Involvement in Building Programs—Librarian Training and Development

Program 4B will focus specifically on the roles of librarians in education and outreach regarding scholarly communications issues. Presenters will discuss how to prepare librarians to take on this new challenge, providing them with the tools and training to speak confidently and answer questions about scholarly communications issues. How disciplinary differences factor into librarian education also will be discussed.
