Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) - Access to Outputs of Research, Policy in Development

In October of 2006, the CIHR published a draft policy designed to ensure public access to products of publicly funded research (including data), noting that it has a fundamental interest in ensuring that research outputs are available to the widest possible audience “in order to build on scientific discoveries, inform policy, develop new technologies, and establish health-related standards and best practices.” The draft policy calls for the results of CIHR-funded research either to be made immediately available in an open access journal or made available in a publicly accessible repository within 6 months of publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
