SPARC and bepress announce ACRL “pre-game” event in March: Winning Strategies from the Institutional Repository All Stars
Registration is now open

Washington, DC and Berkeley, CA – Before the ACRL 2011 meeting in Philadelphia, SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) and Berkeley Electronic Press will host an “IR Tailgate,” a one-day session on the challenges and opportunities of implementing and sustaining an institutional repository, to be held March 30.  

With a light-hearted sports theme, the event will continue conversations begun at the SPARC Digital Repositories Meeting last November and explore issues specific to ensuring the success of the campus repository. The program includes:

• Setting Up Your Game Plan: Strategies for content acquisition and growth, including repository staffing, identifying partners, collecting early sources of content, and publishing programs for journals, conference proceedings, and books. 
• Building Your Fan Base: Promoting your repository on and off campus through marketing strategies, engaging senior staff, and forming off-campus partnerships. 
• The Half-Time Report: Taking stock and measuring success with information on reporting, evaluating needs, reviewing goals, and setting new milestones. 

Featured speakers include:

• Paul Royster, Coordinator for Scholarly Communication, University of Nebraska-Lincoln;
• Marisa Ramirez, Digital Repository Librarian and Library Liaison to Campus Administration, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo;
• Marilyn Billings, Scholarly Communication and Special Initiatives Librarian, University of Massachusetts Amherst; and 
• Heather Leary, Institutional Repository and Digital Imaging Coordinator, Utah State University.
