SPARC announces key themes for March event SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) has announced the program theme for its next meeting, to be held in Kansas City, March 11 through 13, 2012. With a focus on “Collaborative strategies for advancing scholarship,” the program will examine recent developments and track key trends in the growth of open-access practices and policies in the scholarly and scientific research arenas.

Innovation, Transforming Discovery, and Citizen Science to be Highlighted at Berlin 9 Open Access Conference -- Program Announced for November Event The program for the international Berlin 9 Open Access meeting has been announced today by the organizing coalition. Focusing on the impact of Open Access in research and scholarship, the event will explore how open, online access has the potential to transform the process of discovery and the translation of knowledge into benefits to society, as well as to enhance public engagement and create new opportunities for scholarship and business.

Reminder: SPARC-ACRL forum at ALA to focus on Berlin Open Access Declaration The organizers of the upcoming SPARC-ACRL forum on emerging issues in scholarly communication have announced the speakers who will zero in on the motivation and drive behind the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities, building support on campuses in North America, and plans for the November meeting.

SPARC Europe Webcast invitation: OpenAIRE – What libraries need to know OpenAIRE is an important development in the Open Access movement in Europe, and provides an important collaborative opportunity for libraries. SPARC Europe is pleased to host Ms Inge van Nieuwerburgh, a regional coordinator for OpenAIRE, on June 7, to explore project features, approaches, risks, challenges, and future directions for the projects, as well as to explore ways libraries can be actively involved in the project.

SPARC and bepress announce ACRL “pre-game” event in March: Winning Strategies from the Institutional Repository All Stars Before the ACRL 2011 meeting in Philadelphia, SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) and Berkeley Electronic Press will host an “IR Tailgate,” a one-day session on the challenges and opportunities of implementing and sustaining an institutional repository, to be held March 30.
