Malaria Journal ranked No. 1 for Tropical Medicine in latest impact factor rankings
The 2006 edition of Journal Citation Reports has just been released, with updated impact factors for journal titles tracked by Thomson Scientific. Highlights for BioMed Central's open access journals include the first official impact factor for BMC Immunology (3.04) and a great performance by Malaria Journal (Impact Factor 2.75) which in just 5 years has become the most highly-cited journal in the field of Tropical Medicine.

Biotechnology for Biofuels is now accepting submissions
Biotechnology for Biofuels is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal featuring high-quality studies describing technological and operational advances in the production of biofuels from biomass.
The Editors-in-Chief of this new open access journal are Bärbel Hahn-Hägerdal (Lund), Michael Himmel (NREL), Chris Somerville (Stanford) and Charles Wyman (UC Riverside).

Summary of BioMed Central’s Workshop at MLA ’07 conference
In May 2007, BioMed Central held a workshop as part of the MLA Conference in the U.S, which focussed on financing open access publications. The workshop featured Scholarly Publishing and Licensing Consultant with MIT Libraries, Ellen Finne Duranceau, who discussed the role of a librarian in an open access world. Members from the BioMed Central Marketing and Sales Team facilitated group discussions, which provided an opportunity for delegates to share their experiences and opinions.

Nottingham University announces a central open access publishing fund
At the ARMA Pre-Conference Workshop, Stephen Pinfield, Chief Information Officer for the University of Nottingham, announced that Nottingham University has established a central fund for any author to apply for when publishing in open access journals.
