4. Authors & Researchers

Research is more valuable when it's shared

Sharing enables new research to build on earlier findings. It not only fuels the further advancement of knowledge, it brings scientists and scholars the recognition that advances their careers. In the digital world, the ways we share and use scholarly material are expanding — rapidly, fundamentally, irreversibly.

5. Resources for Publishers

Publishing Services a Major Growth Area for Academic Libraries, Suggests New Research Report

Publishing services provided by libraries are expanding and professionalizing, suggests a new report released for comment today by SPARC, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, on behalf of a team of researchers from the libraries of Purdue University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of Utah. The report is the result of a year-long study of library publishing services made possible by a collaborative planning grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), with additional support from Berkeley Electronic Press and Microsoft Research.

6. SPARC Resources for Students

This month, Europe's leading medical and psychological student associations joined the Right to Research Coalition, adding more than 300,000 students to the coalition’s network.  These two organizations join a dozen other leading national and international student organizations to become members of the Right to Research Coalition since January.  A full press release can be found at http://www.righttoresearch.org/blog/leading-european-medical-and-psychological-student.shtml.

The Immediate Past President of the European Medical Students' Association (EMSA), Tin Kneevi, has written a guest post for the Right to Research Coalition blog.  In it, Kneevi provides insight into EMSA's decision to join the Right to Research Coalition and outlines why he sees Open Access as a crucial issue for both medical students and the field of medicine writ large.  This guest post can be found at http://www.righttoresearch.org/blog/open-access-as-a-healthcare-investment.shtml.
