Author Rights


In agreeing to publish an article in a peer-reviewed journal, an author must retain key rights in order legally to be able to post that article on his or her personal Web site or to submit to an open repository. Signing a traditional publishing agreement may mean giving those rights away. Learn more about retaining rights and the tools that are available to help authors to do so.

5. Resources for Publishers

Raym Crow is moderating an ALCTS SCIG session at ALA on “Library-Press Collaborations: How do they work together to advance scholarly communication?” Speakers Jim Mullins of Purdue, John Wilkin of Michigan, and Kizer Walker of Cornell will explore various types of library-press collaborations. The session will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2011, from 10:30am - 12:00pm, in Room 245 of the Morial Convention Center, New Orleans.

6. SPARC Resources for Students  

With support from the Open Society Foundations, the Right to Research Coalition's first European Student Summit last month successfully brought together 10 officials from leading European and international student organizations with leading Open Access advocates from Europe and North America for an energetic and productive discussion about student involvement in the Open Access movement.  As the coalition continues to grow internationally at an ever increasing rate, the Summit will provide both added momentum and an important foundation for future collaboration.

Also, this month marks the 2 year anniversary of the Right to Research Coalition, which originally launched with the Student Statement on the Right to Research in June of 2009.  In 2 short years, the coalition has quickly grown to include organizations representing nearly 7 million students in over 100 countries around the world, facilitated over 200 Congressional lobby visits in support of the Federal Research Public Access Act (FRPAA), and launched a website and accompanying materials to help students advocate for Open Access and educate both themselves and their peers.  Look out for a post on the coalition's blog this month celebrating the two year anniversary.
