SPARC-ACRL Forum to Explore Progress of Open Access Publishing Models. "Course check: A conversation with three open access publishers about the challenges of sustainability," to be held at ALA Annual in Washington, DC on Saturday, June 23, 2007, 4:00 - 5:30PM in the Georgetown Room, Hilton Washington (1919 Connecticut Avenue NW).

Two U.S. Government reports call for public access to agency-funded research. Energy Department and Centers for Disease Control documents call for open public access to research.

Faculty Senate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Approves Resolution for Authors. Faculty has unanimously approved a resolution supporting university authors in managing their publishing rights and agreements. [PDF]

Scitopia Offers New Search Capacity. Over a dozen science and technology society publishers have launched a no-cost, aggregated search service across resources including access to three million documents and peer-reviewed journal content.

Open Medicine launches. New peer-reviewed, general medical journal publishes independently of a commercial publisher or medical association; uses PKP software.

Free Thesis Project Allows Harvard Students to Upload Theses Under Creative Commons Licenses. OAI-compliant site encourages seniors to upload theses; rollout to other universities planned.

Georgia State University Library blogs "Subscription costs for Elsevier's hybrid OA titles." The goal of the blog is to deliver news and information of interest to the Georgia State University community regarding issues in scholarly communication.

UK Report Suggests New Direction for Research Libraries. New report, "Researchers' Use of Academic Libraries and their Services," points to areas of opportunity. [PDF]

Information Access Alliance (IAA) has redesigned and updated its web site. Site now features more information about the IAA, a resource guide, and up-to-date FAQs.

Genetic Alliance Introduces New Web Resource. Allows patients, care givers, health professionals, and others to easily locate and navigate information on genetic disorders from the National Library of Medicine.

This new section for publishers will highlight new and featured material from the SPARC web site.

Sponsorships for Nonprofit Scholarly & Scientific Journals: A Guide to Defining & Negotiating Successful Sponsorships. Guide describes how nonprofit publishers can evaluate whether a corporate sponsorship program might be appropriate for their journal and develop a sponsorship program as a component of the journal's income stream.
