Joe Zucca is Assistant Director for Management Information Services and Communication at the University of Pennsylvania Library.  He is responsible for helping librarians access and use data in assessment and the managment of services, and for providing to library administration data useful for planning.  His position is designed to enhance the Library's "organizational intelligence" and to make that intelligence available to the Library's assessment efforts, and other programs as well.  Joe therefore has a central role in marketing services and responsibility for communicating directions and priorities internally to staff and to University and other external audiences.  Key to Joe's work at Penn has been the development of the Library Data Farm, a large relational database integrated with library web services and the LIS.  Data Farm provides measurement tools to staff and a wide range of quantitative and qualitative data derived from transactional systems like the opac, departmental statistical reports, and surveys.   Joe has worked with management information and publications since coming to Penn in 1993.  Earlier, he held various positions at Temple University Library, including assistant to the University Librarian, head of Circulation and Reserve Services, and head of Interlibrary Loan.
