SUMMARY:An Introduction to XML and XML Applications
DESCRIPTION:The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Statistics and Assessment program and the Digital Library Federation (DLF)\, a program of the Council on Library and Information Resources\, are pleased to offer this three-day in-depth workshop focused on using XML and XSLT in the library environment. \n \nAn Introduction to XML and XML Applications\nFebruary 26–28\, 2014\, in Washington\, DC\nTaught by experienced XML instructors and developers Matthew Gibson\, director of digital initiatives at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities at the University of Virginia\, and Christine Ruotolo\, digital services manager for humanities and social sciences at the University of Virginia Library\, this three-day workshop is designed for the relative newcomer to XML. The workshop will be a mix of lecture and hands-on demonstration and experimentation. Some topics the workshop will cover include: \n\nDifferences between XML and HTML and SGML\nWriting well-formed XML\nWriting and validating XML with DTDs\, Schema\, and Schematron\nXML Namespaces\nExploring XML applications specific to librarians and digital humanists: MODS\, METS\, TEI\, KML\, etc.\n\nEvent Details\nDates: Wednesday\, February 26–Friday\, February 28\, 2014 Time: 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.  Location: ARL\, 21 Dupont Circle NW #800\, Washington\, DC Fee: $1\,000 Register: Register online by February 10\, 2014  \n \nRegistration\nRegister online.
