Iowa State University Library seeks a dynamic and forward-thinking leader to oversee the Metadata Services Department. This position will lead the Library’s efforts to identify and develop metadata services while also overseeing and improving existing practices, workflows, and functions. Success in this position will require someone who is comfortable with trial and error, curious, enjoys risk, encourages innovative thinking, quickly adopts and abandons new approaches, and embraces failure. The Head of Metadata Services will collaborate extensively with metadata stakeholders inside and outside the Library, bringing technical expertise, vision, and an ability to identify and implement innovative metadata solutions that enhance the access and discoverability of digital assets. This will require an understanding of current and emerging metadata standards, controlled vocabularies, models, applications, and initiatives. It will also require familiarity with information processing (programming) and emerging trends and best practices in automating manual tasks. Solid skills in personnel management and change management are essential, as is the ability to develop productive professional relationships. 
 
A Librarian III will demonstrate continued effectiveness in job performance through evidence of substantial knowledge, understanding, and skills in performing the duties of their position; demonstrate effective leadership in institutional service; perform effective supervisory duties as assigned; and continue to build body of scholarship in area(s) of interest or exhibits leadership in external professional activities. A Librarian IV will demonstrate excellence in job performance through evidence of substantial knowledge, understanding, and skills in performing the duties of their position; demonstrate excellent leadership in institutional service; perform excellent supervisory duties as assigned; and establish a positive national and/or international reputation through scholarship or leadership in external professional activities.

Having the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate will be essential to your success, and you’ll be working alongside us to achieve this goal. You’ll also need to embrace the Library’s core values, demonstrate collegiality, and have strong commitment to public service and the land grant mission.
