The University of Georgia Libraries is seeking a Research and Instruction Librarian for its Special Collections Libraries (SCL) who will be responsible for ensuring effective and responsive frontline research assistance to on and off-site patrons for all three special collections libraries: Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies, and Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection. The position performs reference desk and reading room desk shifts; contributes in staff training on reference service activities; provides instruction and assistance to patrons; provides instruction in the classroom; participates in the SCL faculty fellows program and with K-12 outreach initiatives; and assists in maintaining the Aeon patron management system and performing financial transactions. Some weekend and evening work is required.
The Research and Instruction Librarian is responsible to the Public Service Coordinator for SCL. The Librarian provides leadership in research services. To achieve this goal, the Coordinator develops strong relationships with faculty and students by providing assistance with searching and browsing finding aids and databases, GIL (the UGA online catalog), GALILEO (a statewide information system), and other electronic resources; and developing web-based resources and other guides to SCL holdings. The Special Collections Libraries is composed of 18 librarians and archivists and 19 support staff.
