Howard-Tilton Memorial Library invites applications for the position of Scholarly Engagement Librarian (Humanities). The library seeks to build its professional staff by recruiting talented, energetic librarians interested in shaping the future of Tulane University and New Orleans. 
Position Summary 
 
The Scholarly Engagement Librarian (Humanities) supports the evolving scholarly information needs of Tulane faculty and students in humanities departments.  Reporting to the Director of User Services and Library IT, this librarian is the principal contact for research instruction, research consultations, and outreach across several humanities departments.  The incumbent routinely meets with students and faculty in assigned departments (individually or in groups) to assess and support their scholarly information needs.  The position plans, implements, and assesses initiatives that assist humanities faculty and students across campus with these needs.  As part of the Scholarly Engagement Team, this position collaborates with colleagues to ensure a consistent, holistic approach to instruction, research support, and outreach.  In partnership with other campus units and services, the position plans and evaluates programs specifically aimed at first and second-year students.  The incumbent chairs the Scholarly Engagement Instruction Group and organizes participation in orientations for both new students and faculty.  The position also works with fellow professionals to develop and promote collections in all formats and to provide relevant programming to highlight and encourage their use.  
 
All Scholarly Engagement Librarians at Tulane use a team approach to fulfill the library's mission in an era of fast-evolving information needs.  Scholarly Engagement Librarians are also expected to develop expertise in emerging technologies and lead or participate in innovative library projects as needs dictate and time allows.
 
Qualifications 
Required
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent at the time of hire. Experience working in an academic library. A graduate degree in a relevant discipline combined with meaningful, relevant academic library experience may be considered. Demonstrated experience with library resources and research tools relevant to the humanities. Research consultation experience. Demonstrated engagement in research support and instruction with a focus on student learning. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in instruction and assessment. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Enthusiasm for creative and engaging outreach. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, technology professionals, and library colleagues. Ability to function fully and competently at technology competency Levels I, and II outlined in HTML Core Technology Competencies for Employees.
 
Preferred:
Academic degree in the humanities. One year of teaching using instructional design, lesson planning, and assessment. Demonstrated interest in digital pedagogy, open educational resources, and/or instructional technology. Working knowledge of a second language or additional languages. Understanding of collection development including financial responsibility in an academic library. Knowledge of the scholarly communications process (publishing, copyright, repositories).
 
Salary/Benefits 
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Librarians are academic appointees; librarians do not have tenure or faculty rank, but in other respects receive the benefits of faculty members; generous benefits including a choice of health plans, tuition waiver for self, and undergraduate tuition waiver for dependents.
