The University of Virginia is seeking applications for the position of Multimedia Teaching and Learning Librarian. This position will join a team responsible for the creation and delivery of instructional programming that develops students’ digital literacy and maker mindsets. The successful candidate will develop and promote media production classes and workshops; assess curricular needs for audio visual production; consult with students and faculty; serve as the primary point of contact for the video and audio studios, media classroom, and media production equipment; and, collaborate with fellow Library staff to contribute to the advancement of the missions of the 3D printing and VR studios. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in teaching video and audio editing software; familiarity and proficiency in using video production equipment; awareness of innovations and trends within the media and education fields; and, a commitment to inclusivity, innovative pedagogy, continuing professional development, collaboration, and excellent teaching.
The Teaching and Learning department strives to deepen the library's connections and partnerships with faculty, students, and other centers on campus. This position will collaborate with a cohort of library staff dedicated to the development of sound pedagogical practices, inspirational teaching methods, innovative outreach programming, and critical attention to the development of digital literacy skills, and will join with a team of disciplinary experts to support and promote excellence in research, scholarship, artistic production, teaching and learning for all members of the academic community. - Design and deliver instruction in media production; multimedia composition; the digital storytelling process; software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After effects, iMovie, and Audacity; and, equipment training, including professional and consumer grade cameras, motion capture, audio, and lighting equipment.
- Collaborate on the creation of instructional materials, outcomes, and activities.Provide tours, equipment orientation, and in-person consultations.
- Collaborate on the design and delivery of programming and events with an emphasis on inclusivity and innovation.
- Develop assessment tools and assess classes, tools, spaces and use of the Robertson Media Center and coordinate with other Library staff to support usability, accessibility, and the ongoing development of a makerspace for creation, experimentation, and inclusion.
- Maintain expertise and proficiency in hardware and software for audio and video projects and hands-on making, and explore and evaluate new and emerging media technologies.
- Lead the effort to sustain and enhance the Audio and Video Studios in accordance with curricular priorities and with an emphasis on inclusivity and creativity.
- Work collaboratively to support the digital scholarship initiatives of both the Library and University.
- ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in a appropriate discipline.
- Able to work proactively, effectively, and collegially at all levels.
- Enthusiasm for instruction and commitment to development of teaching skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, or a commitment to do so at UVA.
- Experience collaboratively designing, teaching, and assessing online and in-person course-related media literacy instruction sessions at the University level.
- Experience managing media studios and students.
- Proficiency in standard editing software, such as Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, After effects, iMovie, Audacity, Garageband, and Pro tools.
- Familiarity with 360 VR filming, motion capture, 3D modeling and printing, and or other makerspace tools and software.
- Experience with various video production equipment, including cameras such as Canon C100 or XF300, audio equipment (recorders, boom mics, desktop mics), and lighting equipment (Halogen lights and LED lights).
This position requires standing for up to two hours; Repetitive motion using a computer keyboard; Proficient verbal, auditory and visual skills; Ability to speak clearly and effectively in public settings to large groups; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/pull up to 50lbs. This position occasionally requires walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This position has an anticipated hiring range of $60,000 -$70,000. Review of applications will begin June 28th.
