RELATIONSHIP AND AUTHORITY: Reports to the Head of the John Miller Burnam Classics Library.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to onsite and virtual exhibitions, and other forms of public outreach and assists the Head of the Library in providing instruction through workshops, seminars and bibliographic instruction sessions connected to individual classes, and individual consultation in the use of the Library’s resources.
- Assists the Classics Bibliographer in developing and managing collections in all formats, and in examining and analyzing vendor and catalog records for accuracy and completeness and assists the Head of the Library with budgetary issues (fund-raising activities as well as existing funds management).
- Provides support for developing the digital profile of the Library's classics collections and for fostering collaborations with institutional partners, nationally and internationally.
- Contributes to the Classics Library’s web tutorials, bibliographic guides, website, blog, and Instagram photo album.
- Supervises and coordinates the work of the Library’s student assistants as it relates to recruitment, supervision, scheduling, budget and payroll, and the staffing of the Circulation desk.
- Manages all circulation activities, including check-outs, check-ins, recalls, and holds. Responsible for fulfilling OhioLINK and ILL patron-initiated borrowing requests.
- Manages the Library’s Stacks with regard to shelving, shelf-reading, orderliness, and shifting as needed.
- Oversees office supplies, including ordering and the supply budget; maintains the Classics Library’s usage statistics; assists patrons in the use of audiovisual equipment, microfilm reader and scanners.
- Performs new and additional tasks as needed to respond to changes in policies and procedures and to complete special projects.
- Master’s degree in Classics or a related field.
- Ability to read and comprehend at least four languages -- Ancient Greek, Latin and two modern languages, preferably German and French.
- One year of supervisory (may include teaching) or managerial experience (overall responsibility for a unit).
- A minimum of two years of experience conducting research in an academic research library, including the use of research tools in Classics, such as the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae, Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, Inscriptiones Graecae, Thesaurus Linguae Latinae, Itinera, Tesserae, Zenon, Dyabola.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with faculty, students, visiting scholars in an academic setting; for example, providing research assistance and class instruction, creating print and web-based instructional materials, curating exhibitions and organizing events in any of the subdisciplines of classical studies, such as classical philology, classical archaeology, ancient history, ancient philosophy, epigraphy, papyrology, etc., at an academic research library, archive, historical society, or university.
